President Obama needs to hear from you today!
Tell him to make higher education more affordable!
As
we speak Congress is working on an economic stimulus package that will
invest billions of dollars into our broken economy and boost it back to
life.
Students across the country are taking advantage of this opportunity and we need your help.
Our
national deficit has caused states to make severe cuts to higher
education funding, and students are suffering the consequences – taking
on increased financial burdens and relying on more substantial loans to
pay their way through college. Nearly half of all students enrolled
full time work 25 hours or more per week to cover their expenses and
the average student graduates with more than $20,000 in student loan
debt.
Sign our petition to let President Obama know how important
it is to prioritize higher education funding in the economic stimulus
package, and to give students immediate relief to secure America’s
future.
Ask President Obama to make higher education affordable:
***PETITION TEXT***
The
American Recovery and Reinvestment Tax Act of 2009 will offer the
critical relief that students need in this economic climate. The $15.6
billion increase to the Pell grant program, $490 million in work study
funds, and the inclusion of a partially refundable tax credit for
higher education will help build the skilled and educated workforce our
nation needs for sustained recovery.
We, the undersigned,
believe the provisions in the House version of the American Recovery
and Reinvestment Tax Act of 2009 are very positive for students and we
call on Congress and President Obama to make higher education more
affordable.
